The Electricity Industry Reform Act (EIRA) restricts the options of lines companies that own generation assets to sell their generation output.

Traditionally lines companies have had to sell the generation output to incumbent generator retailers whose interests are not necessarily aligned with optimising the lines companies’ generation assets.
